Instructions Following Direct Sinus Lift

For the first four weeks following surgery, avoid activities that increase pressure in your nasal or oral cavities. This includes refraining from blowing your nose, holding your nose while sneezing, flying in pressurized aircraft, scuba diving, straining during heavy lifting, inflating balloons, and playing wind instruments.

Take all prescribed medications as directed, including any necessary decongestants.

Maintaining excellent oral hygiene is crucial for preventing infection and encouraging quick recovery. Begin rinsing your mouth with a saltwater solution (half a teaspoon of salt in an 8-ounce glass of water) on the evening of your surgery or the day after, repeating after each meal or four to five times daily.

Gently brush your teeth with a soft manual toothbrush starting the evening of surgery or the following day, continuing at least twice daily.

Stay well-hydrated by drinking plenty of fluids. For the initial days post-surgery, stick to soft foods, gradually returning to your regular diet as comfort allows. It's important to avoid chewing or applying pressure directly to the bone graft area. Please also refrain from consuming alcohol or smoking for the first one to two weeks after your surgery.

Any removable dental appliances, such as partials, flippers, or full dentures, must be evaluated for proper fit before you resume wearing them.

You may experience some swelling and bruising. Applying a cold compress to the facial area near the surgical site can help reduce swelling. If using an ice pack, always place a cloth barrier between the ice and your skin. Apply the cold compress for up to 20 minutes, then remove it for at least 20 minutes, repeating as needed.
